Privacy Policy — Enzz Taalo
Status: this product is in development and not yet open to the public. This policy describes how it is designed and what is built so far, and will be confirmed before launch.
Effective date: to be set at launch
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Enzz Taalo app ("the app") collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. The app is operated by Enzz Technologies Limited ("Enzz", "we", "us"), Nakuru, Kenya.
- App: Enzz Taalo (Android package
com.clee.cbc) - Website: https://enzz.co.ke
- Contact: support@enzz.co.ke
Taalo holds information about children. Please read sections 2 and 7 carefully.
1. Who this policy covers
Taalo helps teachers record what each learner can do under Kenya's Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), and lets parents and learners see that progress. This policy covers:
- Teachers, who set up classes, add learners and record evidence.
- Parents and guardians, who view their child's progress.
- Learners, from Pre-Primary 1 to Grade 12, whose records are kept in the app and who may do assignments in it.
2. Our role and the school's role
A teacher or school decides which learners are added and what is recorded about them. For that information the school is the data controller and Enzz processes it on the school's behalf, to provide the app. Enzz is the controller for the small amount of information about the people using the app (section 3.1).
Before a learner is added, the teacher or school must have the agreement of the learner's parent or guardian to record the child's schoolwork and progress in Taalo, including photos, audio and video of that work.
3. Information we collect
3.1 About teachers, parents and guardians
| Information | Examples | When it is collected |
|---|---|---|
| Teacher profile | Name, email address, school, the grades and learning areas they teach | When a teacher sets up the app |
| Parent or guardian | The name they enter, and which learner they are linked to | When a parent sets up the app |
| Notes you write | A teacher's remarks, a parent's notes on a competency, questions you ask the assistant | As you use the app |
3.2 About learners
| Information | Examples | Who enters it |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Name, gender, grade, learning areas | Teacher (typed, or imported from a spreadsheet) |
| Access PIN | A PIN the teacher issues so the learner or parent can open that learner's record | Teacher |
| Evidence of learning | Photos, audio recordings and videos of the learner's work, each tagged with the competency, the date, how much help the learner had, and the setting. A photo, recording or video may show the learner's face or voice. | Teacher |
| Assessment results | Per-question marks on tests and assignments, observation records, performance level (Below, Approaching, Meeting or Exceeding Expectation), remarks | Teacher |
| Assignment answers | Answers the learner types, and whether written work was done in their book | Learner or teacher |
| Competency status and history | The current level for each competency and the dated evidence behind it | Worked out by the app from the evidence |
| Summaries and suggestions | A written summary of the learner's needs, a summary for parents, suggested activities, and a suggested senior-school pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts and Sports Science) | Generated on request (section 5) |
Taalo does not ask for a learner's date of birth, home address, national or birth-certificate number, admission number, health information, religion or family details, and teachers should not type these into remarks.
3.3 Collected automatically
| Information | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Network connection status | Working offline and syncing when the device is back online |
| IP address and basic request data | Received by our servers and service providers whenever the app connects; used for security and to deliver the service |
The app does not include advertising SDKs or third-party analytics SDKs, does not collect an advertising ID, and does not track location.
3.4 Device permissions
A permission is requested only when the feature that needs it is used.
| Permission | Why it is used |
|---|---|
| Camera | Photographing or filming a learner's work as evidence, and scanning a printed test paper |
| Microphone | Recording audio evidence, such as a learner reading aloud |
| Photos, videos and audio on the device | Attaching existing files as evidence |
| Notifications | Reminders, such as assignments due |
| Internet and network state | Syncing and detecting when the device is offline |
3.5 Stored on the device
Taalo works offline. Class lists, evidence files, results and the curriculum are stored on the device and sent to our servers when it is online. Anyone who can unlock a teacher's phone can see the class's records, so the device should be locked.
4. How we use information
- to keep each learner's record and work out their competency status from dated evidence;
- to show a learner's progress to that learner, their parent or guardian, and their teachers;
- to let more than one teacher share a learner, each for their own learning areas;
- to generate assignments, tests and classroom activities aligned to the curriculum;
- to produce summaries and suggestions when a teacher or parent asks for one;
- to back up a teacher's data and restore it on a new device;
- to provide support, fix problems, and keep the service secure;
- to comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information, show advertising, or use a learner's information to market anything to them or their family.
5. Artificial intelligence
Taalo uses AI models from other companies to write questions and activities, read a photographed test paper, and write summaries and suggestions.
- Questions, tests and activities are generated from the curriculum (grade, learning area, sub-strand). No learner information is sent.
- Summaries, parent overviews, observation drafts and pathway suggestions are generated from one learner's record. The request contains the learner's name as entered, their grade, and their assessment history. It does not contain photos, audio or video.
- Scanning a test paper sends the photo of the paper to an AI model to read the questions.
AI output can be wrong. A summary or a pathway suggestion is information to help a teacher or parent, not a decision. Taalo does not make any decision about a learner automatically, and a learner's competency status is worked out by fixed rules from the evidence a teacher recorded, not by an AI model.
We do not use learners' information to train AI models, and we use providers on terms under which they do not train on it either.
6. Who we share information with
| Recipient | What is shared | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| The learner's teachers | The learner's record for the learning areas they teach | Teaching and assessment |
| The learner, and their parent or guardian | That learner's record, opened with the learner's PIN | Seeing progress |
| Supabase | Learner records, results, and evidence files (photos, audio, video) | Database and file storage for sync and backup |
| Render | Requests passing through our AI service | Hosting |
| AI providers (Anthropic, Groq, Google, OpenRouter) | The content described in section 5 | Generating content on our behalf |
| Google Fonts | IP address | Downloading the app's fonts |
A learner's record is never public and is never shown to other learners or other parents. We also share information when the law requires it, or in a business transfer, in which case this policy continues to apply.
Sharing with other Enzz products. We plan to let a learner's verified competencies count in AOIS, our jobs and skills product. This will only ever happen with the explicit agreement of the learner, or of their parent or guardian if they are under 18, for the specific competencies they choose.
7. Children
Most of the people Taalo holds information about are under 18.
- A learner is added only by their teacher or school, with the agreement of a parent or guardian (section 2).
- We process learners' information only in ways that serve the learner's education and best interests.
- We do not show advertising to learners, build marketing profiles of them, or sell their information.
- A parent or guardian can ask the school, or us, to see their child's record, correct it, or have it deleted.
- Photos, audio and video are evidence of schoolwork for the teacher, the learner and the parent. They are not published, and schools must not use them for any other purpose without separate consent.
8. Security
Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. A learner's record is opened with a PIN issued by the teacher; keep PINs private and ask the teacher for a new one if it is shared by mistake. No system is completely secure.
9. How long we keep information
We keep a learner's record while the teacher or school uses Taalo for that learner. When a teacher removes a learner, or a school stops using Taalo, the learner's record and evidence files are deleted from our active systems; backups are overwritten on a rolling schedule. Data on a device is removed when the app is uninstalled or its storage is cleared.
10. Your choices and rights
- Teachers can correct or remove any learner, result or evidence item in the app.
- Parents and guardians can ask the teacher to correct or remove their child's information, or contact us at support@enzz.co.ke.
- Permissions can be withdrawn at any time in the device settings.
- Deleting everything: email support@enzz.co.ke from the teacher's registered email address and we delete the teacher's profile and the class data within 30 days.
Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019 you also have the right to be informed, to access your data, to object to or restrict processing, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased, and to receive your data in a portable format. For a child these rights are exercised by a parent or guardian. Contact support@enzz.co.ke; we respond within 30 days. You may also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Kenya (https://www.odpc.go.ke).
11. International transfers
Our storage, hosting and AI providers process data outside Kenya. Where this happens we rely on safeguards permitted under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will change the effective date and, for significant changes, tell teachers in the app so they can inform parents.
